Steve McCurry has become internationally renowned for his striking colour photography since his first photographic expedition to India over three decades ago.

Afghanistan is one of the countries which McCurry continually returns to, to document its people and landscapes with a rare and disarming beauty. He first travelled to Afghanistan in May of 1979 having been told of the devastation that was being wrought there as a result of the Afghan-Soviet War. It was in a refugee camp in Afghanistan where McCurry captured his most iconic photograph, Afghan Girl, in 1984. The photograph has become on the most recognisable images of the twentieth century and graced the cover of magazines the world over.

This book presents together a collection of some of McCurry's most remarkable photographs taken in the country which has held such a fascination for him for almost four decades. His photographs capture the spirit, dramatic landscapes and culture of the country.
